We came through the DFG grant system through Care & Repair Powys and GB were one of the contractors we were recommended.
Did the service meet your expectations?
Yes the bathroom is fantastic, Adam, our builder was absolutely brilliant. He was so respectful of mum, the dogs and our house. The other blokes that were involved, like the electrician, plasterer were all seamless and everything flowed together.
How has it impacted your daily life?
It is a game changer. We got lost in the system and have been waiting for 3-4years. Mum had a big fall in the summer which speeded things up and got once the Occupational Therapist got involved. It was impossible for us to use the old bathroom and I actually used to have to take her to a friend’s house once a week to shower her. It was a huge hassle, mum would be knackered and the struggle to get there in the first place was always a challenge. Now she can just trundle in from her bedroom with her zimmer frame and shower in her own home. It’s now just part of the day rather than a whole day event.
As well as the wetroom we also had a platform and ramp installed in the front garden. GB have levelled and relaid the path so it is safe. We can now just roll straight out, it’s brilliant.
Tips and advice to anyone else looking to have an adaptation
Let it happen and trust the process. Nigel, our contact at Care & Repair is very gentle and knowledgeable. He knows what is possible to push through the grant system. Just make sure you ask questions.

Absolutely, 100%. We have spoken to everyone who has been involved in the process, the Occupational Therapist, Nigel at Care & Repair, Jason from GB; we’re all thrilled with it. There was no snag list or problems to revisit which I half expected as there is usually something.
