We spoke to Mel Wright, Stonewater Surveyor who has started working with Craig, our Buildings Manager over the past six months to deliver their property repairs and maintenance.
Over the past five years, we have been supporting Stonewater properties to deliver a variety of repairs and improvements to homes in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Shropshire.

Why did you choose GB Electrical & Building Services Ltd to complete the work?
I’ve only been working with Stonewater for the past 6months and my main point of contact is Craig. I think he’s brilliant, mainly because if I need something he does it. Sometimes I feel like our job is like being firefighters and we have to react. If I need a favour at the last minute Craig does it. As a contractor, he is really helpful and has been fantastic. He pulls out all the stops, keeps the tenants happy, and addresses all the issues. I can’t speak highly enough of him to be honest.
Did the service meet your expectations?
The communication is open and honest. It works for me. I go to Craig first before I go to anyone else. It works extremely well to have one point of call. There are so many companies we work with where you call and you don’t know who you will be dealing with. With GB, I know I have Craig. He makes me look better as I can get things done which takes the stress out of the job.
How has the work impacted property/residents/staff?
Really good, I don’t have any complaints. Sometimes we have to go back to tweak the odd thing but that has nothing to do with the work. It is down to the tenants picking fault or trying to get more done that has not been agreed. I would like GB to do more in the future. If I could I would use them for everything but we can’t at the moment due to contracts currently in place and our tendering process.
Why is it important to use local contractors?
I don’t think it’s fair to use contractors out of the area as they have huge travel times and the disadvantage of not knowing the area or having the local connections. From my own opinion, I feel we should promote using our local contractors to help the local economy and keep the investment within the local communities.
If you were to recommend us, what would you say?
Craig’s so helpful, resourceful and works with us. I think this example sums him up well. I called him at 5.05pm after office hours, I didn’t get through, understandably. Within 20mins, he called me back and the next morning, first thing he was able to get some contractors onsite to help me with a problem. He goes above and beyond.
I understand that Craig is one ambassador within the GB team so I would also like to mention Leonie, I have never met her but have always found her really helpful and nice and I honestly think Craig would struggle without her being in the background supporting all the projects.
