Care & Repair | Powys Council

Care & Repair | Powys Council

Since 2018 we have carried out internal and external adaptations works for Powys Care & Repair agency. All contractors on the Powys Care and Repair list have to meet a high criteria and standard of work and are regularly monitored to ensure that insurances, health and safety information, DBS Enhanced checks and relevant certificates are kept up to date.

Recent projects have included low level access showers to full wet room adaptations, installing concrete and timber non slip ramping, fitting grab rails around the home, door widening and small electrical works.

We spoke to Nigel Crawley, Technical Officer about the work that has been delivered to date:

a trustworthy company who offers a quality standard of working…

For the projects that GB Electrical & Building Services have been allocated how would you rate the work and service they have delivered to date?

We have a few contractors on our books that we regularly outsource the work to but when you get a company like GB working for you it takes the pressure off. They far exceeded our expectations and are very good at communicating. You know if you allocate them a job however big or small it’s going to get done. If there is any snagging, they will sort it and the quality of work of work is always high.

Jason, the Contracts Manager at GB has done similar work in the past and knows the process. He is excellent at getting in touch with the clients and explaining what is going to happen or any changes to the plan. The builders are first class and we have never had any complaints.

How has the work impacted property/residents/staff?

Care and Repair in Powys provides expertise, advice and practical support to older people or people with disabilities who need to undertake repairs, renovations or adaptations to their home. Through the work we deliver we are able to give back things we take for granted to residents with mobility issues. It can often cause a loss of dignity and independence if residents are not able to move around their own homes safety. The work we provide gives a sense of well being back to them.

Why is it important to use local contractors?

It’s nice to be able to use local contractors as you’re able to build stronger relationships. They get to understand what you want, you almost don’t have to tell them everything. They get on and do it, let you know if you missed something or what to expect.

Jason is very good at co-ordinating the projects, the other officers in the team enjoy working with GB as well, as I said they take the pressure off us.

If you were to recommend us what would you say?

They are a trustworthy company who offers a quality standard of working.
