Apprenticeships in Herefordshire and beyond have been difficult to come by in recent times as companies feel the effects of a difficult year financially. We are proud to say we have engaged Kyle Newman as our latest apprentice. He joined our electrical installation team in October 2020 and is set to be with the company for the next three years.

As well as gaining practical skills, we also focus on supporting our apprentices academically as we recognise that they are an investment for the future.

We spoke to Kyle Newman about his experience to date:

“GB are really supportive and persevere to give me the best experience I can within the apprenticeship… ”

How did you hear about GB Electrical & Building Services and why did you choose to apprentice with them?

It was really hard to find an apprenticeship as not many companies are taking on anyone at the moment due the current situation. I applied to GB as I know some people that work there and liked the way that they worked. I applied and was given an interview and we have gone through there.

Has the apprenticeship met your expectations?

It has been really good. GB are really supportive and persevere to give me the best experience I can within the apprenticeship. I like that you get to work in lots of different places and experience a wide range of jobs, no day is the same. I am at college two days a week and work with GB three days. They check in on me on a weekly basis, they are really friendly and give me a lot of support.

How do you feel the apprenticeship will help you?

I have learnt so much already. It’s a good experience to work alongside professionals working in the industry, you learn so much more than you would from a textbook.

If you were to recommend having an apprenticeship with us what would you say?

Go for it, I got to work with a great company. Keep trying and applying, eventually you will get one.
